[Details/Reserve]
Not all visitors at the Schenectady County Airport are there to travel—many are going to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum, which occupies two of the airport's buildings and a large Airpark. Begun as a way to preserve the history and legacy of aviation in the state of New York, the museum now boasts a collection of over 20 planes, a virtual reality vehicle ride, and thousands of archival photographs and documents. The indoor galleries cover many aspects of the history of aviation, with exhibits on Amelia Earhart, flight during WWI and WWII, and NASA's lunar exploits. There is also a vast research library onsite, featuring many historical documents. All of this in an airport that itself is important to the history of aviation in New York—one of the first landings there was by Charles Lindbergh, and it has variously been an aircraft manufacturing site, an Army Air Force base, and a test flight facility. The museum is ADA compliant and offers accessible parking lots. There is a gift shop onsite. The museum is only open on the weekends; check the website for hours.

[Details/Reserve]
Sitting across from the oldest thoroughbred racetrack in the country, the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of horse racing in the U.S. Beginning life as a seasonal exhibit in a casino, the museum's grounds and collection have expanded greatly into the 45,000 square foot facility it occupies today. Presenting a history older than the country itself, the museum's galleries feature memorabilia across more than three centuries: sculptures of horses, paintings of jockeys, and racing trophies abound, with plenty of information to put them in context. The hall of fame is an interactive exhibit covering nearly 500 inductees— horses, jockeys, trainers, and other important figures. There is even a kid's gallery featuring a barn, a life-sized horse model for grooming, and jockey clothing to try on. Aside from the permanent exhibits, the museum hosts special exhibitions highlighting different aspects of the sport. The museum is partially accessible, including entrances and restrooms, and features a gift shop.
