Hancock Shaker Village is a living history museum which celebrates the history and legacy of the Shakers, a religious group that lived communally and promoted values of equality and pacificism. This site, on the National Register of Historic Places, was active until 1960. The grounds consist of 20 historic buildings and a working farm and garden, surrounded by 750 acres of pasture, woods and hiking trails. Of particular interest are the Round Stone Barn (1826), the Brick Building that served as a dormitory (1830), and the Museum which houses permanent and changing exhibitions. Staff demonstrate traditional Shaker trade crafts on a rotating schedule in various locations. There is a café and gift shop on the premises. The Village is open seasonally, so please check the website for up-to-date details.

Mabee Farm, the oldest in the Mohawk Valley, is home to three 18th century houses, an 18th century Dutch Barn, a number of wooden outbuildings, and the Franchere Education Center. The grounds include orchards, gardens, and nature trails which loop through one mile of forest. An animal pen is home to goat, sheep, and chickens. The Franchere Education Center features exhibitions about the history of the farm. Tours of the Mabee House and Dutch Barn run on a schedule—please see the website for details. All grounds and buildings are wheelchair accessible, except for the Brick House.

MASS MoCA occupies a complex of 19th-century mill buildings on a 16-acre site in downtown North Adams, MA. Opened to the public in 1999, the museum exhibits art by both well-known and emerging artists, focusing on large-scale, immersive installations that would be impossible to realize in conventional museums. Exhibitions take place in both inside galleries and on the grounds. Among others, permanent exhibits include important works by Sol LeWitt, Joseph Beuys, and Anselm Kiefer. A museum shop and a number of eating and drinking opportunities are on the premises.

Olana is the former home, studio, and grounds of 19th century Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church. The unique main building is an eclectic mixture of styles, featuring stencil work on both the exterior and interior based on Church's travels in the Middle East and elsewhere. The interior of the house is much as it was when the artist was alive and includes a number of paintings by Church, his mentor Thomas Cole, and other artists within his circle. The 250-acre grounds represent a landscape designed by Church, through which visitors may walk on the many trails available. There is a Visitor Center and gift shop on the premises. The Frederic Church Center for Art and Landscape has a café. The nearby Hudson River Skywalk, a pedestrian walkway across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, connects the site with the Thomas Cole National Historic Site.

This National Historic Landmark and National Historic Site is home to the historic house and studios of painter Thomas Cole (1801-1848), founder of the Hudson River School of American landscape. Visitors may visit the historic buildings, explore the grounds, and view exhibitions. The nearby Hudson River Skywalk, a pedestrian walkway across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, connects the site with Olana, the home of Frederick Church, another important Hudson River School painter. There is a gift shop on the premises. The 1839 Storehouse Studio, the 1846 New Studio, and Cole Center, the Visitor's Center, are all wheelchair-accessible, as well as the first floor of the Main House via a wheelchair lift.

Ventfort Hall is home to The Museum of the Gilded Age, a Jacobean Revival-style mansion built in 1893 for the sister of J. P. Morgan. Located on 11 acres in the heart of the Lenox, the museum interprets the great changes that occurred in American life, industry, and society during the Nineteenth Century. The first floor is completely open to the public, along with many of the rooms on the second floor. There is a gift shop on the premises.
